Working Student Program

Five Stars Farm typically has three working students on staff at any one time, and each is an important member of our team.

Our working students are responsible for keeping the barn running in top form and ensuring that each of our horses receives the best of care. But our working students are here to learn as well, so we provide an immersive riding and training program for each one.

Responsibilities

Working students perform normal chores that are part of running a premier dressage facility, including feeding, stall cleaning, turning out/bringing in horses, grooming horses in training, and so forth. The position entails a five-day work, week from 7 am – 5 pm, but working students get two full days off a week versus only a half or one-day time off found with most working student positions.

Ride, Learn and Show

One of the most important benefits of Five Stars Farm’s working student program is that it is designed to provide each person with an exceptional opportunity to ride and to learn.

• Each member of the team has daily riding lessons with Mary Howard (five days a week) on their own horse or one of our schoolmasters.

• Working students have the opportunity to show on their own horse, with free coaching at the show.

• They also have the opportunity to participate in clinics.

• Several of our working students have earned their Gold, Silver and/or Bronze medals, and a number of them have become highly successful professionals.

Benefits

Each working student has his/her own private apartment on the property, provided free of charge (including all utilities).

A small monthly stipend is included as is free board for the working student’s own horse.

As noted, our working students have two days off each week.
